Description
Trypanosoma is a genus of parasitic protozoa that belongs to the family Trypanosomatidae. These single-celled organisms are responsible for causing a group of diseases known as trypanosomiasis, which affect humans, animals, and even plants. Trypanosoma species are transmitted through various vectors such as tsetse flies, reduviid bugs, and biting flies.
Trypanosoma infections can lead to serious health problems and have significant impacts on affected populations. There are two major types of trypanosomiasis that are of public health concern: African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, and American trypanosomiasis, commonly referred to as Chagas disease.
